Starting in early 2012, we will be awarding scholarships to graduating high school seniors in St. Marys, Ohio.  This program will be publicized through our website, the local newspaper, and St. Marys Memorial High School.

The purpose of the scholarship is to provide funds to further education.  The amount of the award will be approximately $500-$1,000 per recipient depending on available funds.  The number of recipients will range from 1-3 depending on available funds.

To be eligible, you must be a graduating high school senior from St. Marys Memorial High school with a minimum GPA of 2.5 and will attend an institute of higher education.

Recipients will be selected on merit.  The applicant must provide an official copy of transcripts, a written essay on a topic of our choice, two letters of recommendation (1 from a teacher or employer and 1 from an unrelated individual), and a listing of extracurricular activities and community involvement.  The recipient must provide proof of acceptance into a school of higher education.  The scholarship is awarded on a one-time basis and is not renewable.

Procedures for supervising the scholarship include an official copy of transcripts and payments will be made directly to the schools under an arrangement whereby the school will apply the grant funds only for enrolled students who are in good standing.  In the event the terms of the award are violated, we will stop any payments to the school and take all reasonable and appropriate steps to recover diverted funds.

The selection committee consists of the directors of the organization. Any committee member with a relative applying for a scholarship will be removed from the selection committee.  Additionally, each application will include a cover sheet with the individual’s name and contact information.  A volunteer from our organization will remove the cover sheet, assign a number to the application packet and black out any identifying information in the packet to ensure the directors/committee members do not know the identity of the applicant.  The application packets will be ranked and referred to by their assigned number until the final applicant(s) is chosen.  This ensures an unbiased selection is made.

In the event our organization is ever deemed a private foundation, we will not permit scholarships to be awarded to disqualified persons.

As more funds become available, we plan to expand our scholarship program to surrounding high schools.

Please check back soon.  We will post our application packet and dates for deadlines in early 2012.
